Understanding Novel

In The American College Dictionary (Tarin, 1984: 164) that the novel is a story of a fictional prose in a certain length, which depicts the figure, motion, and the representative of the real scene in a groove or a state of chaos or creases. Novel notion in view H.B. Jassin (1977: 64) states that "The novel as a prose that is a story that tells of the extraordinary events of people's lives. Sumardjo and Saini (1997:29) term equal to the term romance novel, the word comes from the Italian novel and bertembang in Britain and the United States. Romance and the novel has a different form of shorter novel than romance, but the size of the elements of the story is almost the same extent. The German language term that is Novelle novel, novella, and it literally means a small new stuff and then interpreted as a short story in prose (Abrams in Nurgiyantoro, 2000:9)
